National Advanced Systems (Europe) and Comparex Information Systems Ltd each yesterday came out with additional models in the disk drive line introduced to compete with the IBM 3380J and K models. Both companies get their disk drives from Hitachi and use 9.5 platters, and the new configuration puts four 1.25Gb units in a single sealed head-disk assembly to create the 7380 AJX and BJX for NAS, the 6480 AE and BE from Comparex. Each also offers two JX units in a single cabinet for 10Gb. Comparex additionally announced the 6480 AJ and BJ storing 2.52Gb. The drives have 13mS average access time – 11mS for the Comparex AJ and BJ – and they will be available here next month.
