Software Europe Ltd, a recently formed software distributor aiming to introduce new software products into the European market, has made its first signing – Oxford-based ICL specialist Hytec Microsystems’ TP+ teleprocessing monitor. TP+ is said to provide a Unix alternative to IBM’s CICS monitor for transaction processing, providing high throughput, recovery and data integrity. It provides an environment under Unix for Cobol and C programs similar to mainframe-based TP programs, which typically leaves the TP monitor to handle the processing of such aspects as screen handling, validation, help, logging, roll-back and recovery. TP+ costs from UKP5,000 to UKP20,000, depending on configuration, and an evaluation version is available for UKP750. According to Software Europe, top-end Unix systems now have enough power to replace 75% of the IBM and ICL mainframe sites in the UK. The company, formed by former Cincom employee Peter Burlow, says it has established a working relationship with a network of distributors throughout Europe.
