Stellar Computer Corp, Newton, Massachusetts, has followed up recent distributor and reseller agreeements in Japan with a major OEM contract from Argo Graphics Inc, of Tokyo. Argo is to package Stellar’s GS1000 graphics supercomputer with its own numerical control system software, marketing it under the name Surge1. Danial Murray, Stellar’s vicepresident of international operations, said that the deal was worth multimillions, and he anticipated around 30 sales in the first year. Murray claimed that Stellar had also won OEM deals in the US, but said that the customers were not yet ready to reveal themselves. Stellar is setting up offices in the UK in Guildford, Surrey, and in Germany – Frankfurt, and both will be open by July. A Japanese subsidiary, based in Tokyo, is also planned by the end of the year: the company has existing agreements with Asahi Chemical Industry Co, which is described as Stellar’s industrial distributor, and the giant Mitsui & Co, as a general distributor. Murray said the company was looking to sell around 180 Stellar systems in its first year, with three quarters of them going direct to endusers. Zycad Corp looks set to acquire Cleveland, Ohio-based Endot Inc, a subsidiary of Data I/O Corp that specialises in software products for system level design automation: the company was founded in 1984 and currently employs 27 people; Zycad chairman John A Fahlberg said Endot’s current software products and its development in VHDL, the US government’s standard hardware description language, fitted in with the company’s strategy to provide an integrated multi-level simulation system for our performance-minded customers; the deal is subject to final approval by Zycad and Data I/O’s board of directors.
