Recessionary down-turn, the impact of reduced new sales and a growing trend among consumers and businesses to switch to lower-cost products are all taking their toll on worldwide IT spending, which Gartner has forecast will fall to $3.2 trillion in 2009.
“Unprecedented decline of the global economy is impacting the IT industry” the analysts said, announcing its latest report on worldwide IT spending forecasts, which reveal a 3.8% fall this year from 2008 revenue of nearly $3.4 trillion.
Dollar-valued global IT spending is estimated to drop 3.76% in 2009 and 2.43% in 2010.
Global IT spending will average 2.79% annual growth from 2008 through 2013, it has estimated.
