Although analysts see the long-term future of IBM Corp’s OS/2 Warp operating system as bleak, IBM is pressing on, and has developed two client programs giving OS/2 users wider access to Microsoft Corp NT client systems. Primary Logon Client for Windows NT is intended to give customers with Windows NT clients the option of using OS/2 Warp Server at the back-end. It provides security features such as user identification and password validation capability. The other program, Enhanced Remote Access server for OS/2, will enable Point-to-Point protocol clients such as Windows 95 and NT, IBM 8235 terminals and Shiva Corp’s remote client software to remotely access OS/2 Warp Server as if locally attached. Last month, IBM added a Windows 95 client and network enabler software giving Windows users the option of viewing resources on OS/2 Warp Server. The two new programs are currently in beta test, but will be generally available in the second quarter of this year.
