Christmas gifts

Apple looks like it’s going to have a great Christmas.

According to a Nielson study over the past few years, Apple’s popularity has helped the company perform well in sales during the holiday season.

American kids between the ages of 6-12 were found to be the most interested in the latest iOS options form Apple than any other electronics or gaming devices.

Nearly half the children surveyed showed interest in receiving a full size iPad, up from 44% last year. The iPod touch (36%) and iPhone (33%) were also among the most coveted devices by this age group.

One in five consumers aged 13 and over said they wanted to receive the iPad this year. Tablets were among the top choices for gifts with the iPad winning the top spot as the most wanted device this Christmas.

19% of respondents indicated they wanted a tablet other than the iPad. Samsung Galaxy choices and Amazon’s Kindle fire could give Apple a run for its money. Neilson revealed that the Samsung Galaxy and Kindle Fire were as nearly desired by teens and adults, with the iPad only leading by 2%.

While Apple and other popular tablet suppliers look to make lucrative gains this holiday season, the study suggest that gaming devices should also be an interesting sector to watch.

Nearly 40% of children between the ages of 6-12 said they want to own the new Wii U and 25% indicated interest in a device from the Nintendo portable DS family.
