Unicomp Inc, Marietta, Georgia appears to have a penchant for Belfast companies, and after buying Software Ireland Ltd, developer of the Unibol language for migrating proprietary workloads to Unix, some five years ago, it has returned to Ulster to pick up one of Eurodis Electron Plc’s computer businesses, CEM Computers Ltd. CEM distributes computers and undertakes systems integration in the UK and the Irish Republic, and Unicomp is paying $3.8m for it in a move that should more than double its size – sales at CEM were $24m in fiscal 1996 where Unicomp did only $21.3m in the same period. CEM employs some 100 people, and takes Unicomp’s total to 400 worldwide.
