Israeli Internet telephony company, VocalTec Communications Ltd has signed a licensing and distribution agreement with Motorola Inc’s Internet Software Products Division in the hope that its software will be propelled into the corporate market place. VocalTec, which has its US headquarters in Northvale, New Jersey has licensed its internet telephony client-server software products, that enable voice and multimedia communication over the net and has been working closely with Motorola to optimize the products’ benefit and use. It’s not the first time the two companies have worked together, having signed an agreement back in March that saw Motorola licensing VocalTec’s Telephone Gateway Server Software (CI No 3,112), and earlier this week VocalTec joined forces with AT&T Corp to support a new internet telephone venture (CI No 3,209). Commenting on the deal with Motorola, Jo Lee, a spokesperson for VocalTec in the US, said the company turned to Motorola because it has the capabilities to market the product on a wide scale, especially to the Fortune 500 market, one of the company’s target areas along with the up and coming Internet Telephony Service Provider arena. VocalTec was established in 1989, but it wasn’t until 1995 that it released its first internet telephony product. The company floated on the Nasdaq exchange in February last year in a bid to expand and since then has added 100 people to its staff list, bringing the total to around 150. The company’s office in Israel handles the research and development, while sales and marketing is dealt with in the US. As part of its expansion program, VocalTec acquired Insitu Inc last year, enabling the company to branch out into the UK, and it now has offices in Farnham, Surrey. Lee says the company is constantly expanding and forecasts massive growth.
