Windows NT, once an ugly duckling operating system laughed at by its big Unix brothers, is not only growing up rapidly into a beautiful, enterprise swan, but, according to a new Data General Corp initiative, it is capable of supporting both Data Marts and full blown data warehouses. The company has launched a ‘best-of- breed’, NT-based Data Mart and warehouse offering, including Informix Corp’s Online Dynamic Server database and Metacube 3.0 analytical processing engine, Vmark Software Inc’s NT-based DataStage product for warehouse creation, NetScheme Inc’s DataSite web-browser based access tool and its own Aviion servers. The company is targeting users in market sectors such as finance, marketing, sales, manufacturing and healthcare that want to use NT for their warehousing systems.
