BMC Software Inc is to integrate its Patrol system management products with Axent Technologies Inc’s security management product OmniGuard, and Unison Software Inc’s enterprise job scheduler Unison Maestro. BMC says the integration of the two products with Patrol puts the company a step nearer achieving its ambition of seeing Patrol become a systems management industry standard. Axent, Rockville, Maryland and Unison’s products will be made compliant via knowledge modules; a set of rules that will tell Patrol how to manage the applications. Houston, Texas-based BMC says that users will no longer have to look to purchase an entire proprietary framework from just one vendor, bringing together best-of-breed solutions. The modules will enable Patrol users to incorporate security management into application management infrastructures and will integrate Axent’s OmniGuard Enterprise Security Manager and Intruder Alert products and Sunnyvale, California-based Unison’s new job scheduling software with Patrol. All of the products involved in the integration will remain as separate products with their own identity. The only difference that users will see is that they will be compliant with the Patrol suite of products. BMC has said that development of the knowledge modules required should be completed by the summer, and subsequent integration will be effective for the product range across the world.
