Hayes Microcomputer Products Inc, the Norcross, Georgia-based maker of modems and data communications equipment has reported a second-quarter net loss of $2.5m on revenue down 19% at $55.7m – up from a loss of $288,000 a year ago, but down from a first- quarter loss of $5.4m. During the quarter Hayes received an order for 10,000 of its Ultra cable modems but revenue from the transaction won’t be recognized until next quarter. Also in the second quarter, the company entered a deal with Alcatel Alsthom SA to manufacture and market ADSL products, completed its acquisition of Cardinal Technologies Inc and began shipment of the 56kbps version of its flagship Optima Business Modem. Six- month net loss was $7.8m on revenue down 35% at $94.9m, compared to net income of $5.2m a year ago.
