The rapidly growing Chinese mobile telecoms industry is now importing CDMA (Code Diversion Mode Access) standard wireless technology to ease the pressure created by the growing market on the present infrastructure, Xinhua news agency reported. According to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the country’s mobile telephone subscription had reported a growth rate of 120% over the past few years, and that there would be as many as 18 million clients by the year 2000. But he said the radio frequency range suitable for mobile phone use was very limited, and in order to meet the growing market demand, the only way out was to develop a technology that could make more use of radio frequencies. China is now building several trial CDMA networks in such cities as Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai.
