Polyspan Teleconferencing BV says it will put internet users out of their misery and enable them at last to enjoy good clear audio quality when making phone calls through their computers, with the launch of SoundStation PC. The US-based maker of the SoundStation conference phone, claims to have developed a device which once plugged into a computer, eliminates the sort of line noise responsible for the disturbing hollow and tinny sounds that are very much a feature of internet phone calls and personal computer videoconferencing. SoundStation PC costs 250 pounds. Richard Reid, Polyspan’s managing director for Europe, said: SoundPoint PC will provide our customers with the best audio possible for the internet. The company has also launched SoundStation Premiere, a system that cuts out background noise from an open plan office for example, through its echo cancellation and noise reduction technology, for natural, two-way handset quality conversations. Reid said: the two products extend the company’s range of products to provide systems for a variety of meeting environments. from the desktop to the boardroom. Polyspan is the European subsidiary of Polycom Inc set up in December 1990. It develops, manufactures and markets audioconferencing and dataconferencing products for long-distance meetings. In 1996 it recorded revenues of $37m and a net profit of $1.5m.
