1E unveils new Wake-on-LAN availability management offering

Web interface to provide users with remote access to PCs

By CBR Staff Writer

1E, a provider of software and services, has unveiled a new software tool Web WakeUp, which enables remote users to power on their office PCs from home through a web interface.

Using the remote Wake-on-LAN availability management offering, users can ‘remote in’ to their office PCs through mobile internet devices such as Apple’s iPhone, eliminating the need for users to wait for PCs to boot up, the company said.

According to 1E, the NightWatchman enables organisations to automate the PC power management process. Used in conjunction with Web WakeUp for remote availability management, it simplifies an organisation’s PC shutdown and patch management needs.

The company said that its offerings contain built-in features to prevent unnecessary user downtime and disruptions including, data protection; invisible user activity checks; and computer health and optional self-healing functionality that helps in detecting signs of PC hardware deterioration, operating system failure and trends in performance.

Sumir Karayi, CEO of 1E, said:“Two of the biggest barriers to PC power management today are the concern that user productivity may be affected and a ‘just in case’ mentality which prevents users from shutting down their PCs at the end of a working day.

“PCs that are not powered down block the potential cost and energy savings that organisations can make from power management. Web WakeUp on the move puts the individual user in the driving seat, giving them more control of PC availability and making power management options much more accessible.
