Silicon Graphics Inc and Netscape Communications Corp last week announced they would be integrating Silicon Graphics’s Cosmo VRML browser technology into the next generation of Netscape browsers. Silicon Graphics had been pushing its own VRML scripting language, VRML Script, in its Cosmo browser, but now with Netscape’s client’s stuff supports all the features of Silicon Graphics’s development tools via JavaScript, the initiative must have seemed redundant. Nobody at Silicon Graphics seems to be holding their breath for VB Script support. Web products division vice-president, Kai-Fu Lee says any technology we consider has to run on all the major platforms. And to that end, Lee says Silicon Graphics expects to provide assistance for system vendors looking to convert as soon as humanely possible. NT, Mac OS, Windows 95 and 3.1 conversions are also planned. Last week Silicon Graphics announced plans to create an NT version of its Cosmo Worlds VRML virtual reality modeling language development suite.
