As if it didn’t have enough troubles already, Apple Computer Inc has had to agree with the US Federal Trade Commission that people that bought the Performa 550, Performa 560 and Macintosh LC 560, introduced between November 1993 and February 1994 can have PowerPC upgrade kits at $600, less than half the original list price of $1,375, or a $776 rebate if they already bought the upgrade. The consent agreement is to settle claims that Apple misrepresented the availability of its PowerPC upgrade kit which actually arrived more than a year after it implied, and when it became available in spring 1995 was so expensive it cost almost as much as an entirely new PowerPC computer, the Trade Commission alleged in its plaint.
