Cognos Inc is in the final stages of putting together a guided data analysis and data mining tool designed to spot patterns in business data that might otherwise be missed in the mass of figures an average corporation accumulates. The $700 Scenario 1.0 for Windows 95 and NT, rummages around through large repositories using statistical methodology to find relevant relationship and trends. Scenario, hardly a surprise, links directly to the existing Cognos PowerPlace online analystical processing client and Impromptu query and reporting tool. The initial version of Scenario, set for release some time in the second quarter, is to be followed by a release that uses neural-network modeling and forecasting, based on technologies from its recent acquisition of Right Information Systems (CI No 3,093).
