Hewlett-Packard Co has launched a new family of multimedia personal computers, integrating internet, digital audio and imaging capabilities. The Pavilion family of machines, using Intel Corp’s Pentium II processors, have a full-page color universal serial bus scanner and digital versatile disc technology. The HP Pavilion Personal Color Scanner is apparently the first USB powered and connected scanner that is available on a retail basis, and features imaging software that includes Microsoft Corp’s Picture It! and Hewlett-Packard’s own internet- imaging protocol and technologies. The 8100 and 3100 models within the family are likely to be priced around $1,000. Many of the new models are available now and others are expected in the autumn.
