UK-based Kasten Chase Applied Research and Alcatel Canada Inc, Transport Automation will co-operate in communications development. Kasten Chase, said to be the emerging leader in wireless data communications technology, will supply Alcatel’s Seltrac communications-based train control system with a radio frequency communication subsystem. Kasten’s spread spectrum wireless modem, the CBS-300, was developed to meet the requirements of railway and mass transit applications. The Seltrac system is Alcatel’s flagship product and is the world’s only revenue service moving block train control system for high density, close headway operation. Seltrac systems currently operate in the London Docklands, Toronto, Vancouver and Detroit. Kasten Chase provides data communications systems to organizations in the financial, postal, government and telecommunications industries. Customers include Dow Jones, CN and CP Rail, GEC Alsthom Transport, the US Department of Agriculture.
