VRML Superscape VR Plc says that a new version of its Viscape Web browser will support the VRML 2.0 virtual reality modeling language standard. The announcement appears to be a move away from the company’s proprietary SuperVRML that it has relied upon so heavily up until now. The new Viscape browser will be developed to VRML standards with no custom extensions, insuring its compliance to open standards. Superscape, which is a member of the VRML Consortium, has been describing itself recently as a publisher of 3D Web page authoring and interactive 3D software company, not just a virtual reality company. The company recently reported a 3m pound loss for the six months to January 31, and subsequently fired 40% of its workforce (CI No 3,135, 3,139).
