Business intelligence software sales have stormed by over 20% on last year with revenues topping $8.8 billion according to latest market assessments.

Gartner has found that sales of BI platform, analytic applications and performance management software revenue grew 21.7% from $7.2 billion a year ago, with SAP estimated to hold a market share of 23.8% following its acquisition of Business Objects.

“Industry consolidation has led to an increase in growth,” said Dan Sommer, at Gartner.

“The large stack vendors, especially the application vendors, have put a lot of focus and sales power behind their newly acquired BI products, with accelerated migrations and upgrades in the installed base as a result.”

SAS Institute, Oracle, IBM and Microsoft make up the top five positions after SAP.

Both the BI platform and the analytic applications and performance management performed strongly with growth rates of 20% and 24%, respectively Gartner has estimated.
