Hindi Windows (Hindows?) will be a reality in a few months, Shyamal Ghosh of the government Department of Electronics, told the Press Trust of India. The development effort, under way at the National Council for Software Technology in Pune, formerly Poona, inland from Bombay, was inspired by the visit by Bill Gates to India last month. Although the vast majority of Indians don’t have the money for computers, Microsoft is counting on the gap between low buying power and high prices changing, and is preparing to move into the potentially huge market – our target is to ensure that at least one out of 100 Indians has a computer by the year 2000, Ghosh declared.
