Compaq Computer Corp’s Communications Products Group, formed in October last year (CI No 3,030), has come out with two telecommunications and telephony products supporting high- performance networking for the US and Japanese markets. The SpeedPaq Integrated Services Digital Network Adapter board, aimed at small office and home office users, is Windows95 compatible and offers an analog port to enable simultaneous data and voice communications and the use of facsimile and answering machines. It costs $235, from late April. The SpeedPaq 336 Telephony Modem has 33.6Kbps data and 14.4Kbps facsimile capabilities, switched voice and data communications, full duplex speakerphone, Compaq’s new Just Connect telephony software, and direct cellular phone support in North America or Latin America, enabling wireless connection anywhere cellular analog service is available. It is $200. Compaq also introduced a family of Ethernet and Fast Ethernet boards for its portables.
