Eastman Kodak Co is also working with Intel to advance industry specifications for the consumer use of digital imaging on personal computers. The two want to make it easier for users to edit, store, share, communicate and publish images. Multimedia peripherals such as digital cameras, scanners and printers currently use varying file formats, storage formats and print drivers, which hinder the easy exchange or printing of files, while the interfaces between computer and imaging peripherals are slow. Kodak plans to optimize its FlashPix image file format (CI No 3,037) for Intel’s MMX multimedia extensions, using host sharing to speed up image manipulation and processing. It will also support the Universal Serial Bus on its digital cameras, and support Intel’s Miniature Card digital exchange format for consumer devices.
