Sales of personal computers in Europe in 1996 were dragged down by stodgy German sales and by customers waiting for MMX machines, research house Context Ltd said. It reckons that growth across Europe slowed to 11.5% in 1996 to 16.4 million machines, compared with sales growth in 1995 of 25% and the projections of up to 15% that were still being made by analysts up until the end of August. The UK was the best market in Europe, with sales jumping 19.5% to 3.4 million; French sales grew 14.2% to 2.4 million, and in Germany, the rise was 7.5% to 3.8 million.
