Netscape Communications Corp and Novell Inc were all smiles at the official birth of their offspring, Novonyx Inc. The joint venture, announced back in March (CI No 3,126) became a real entity after the US government completed its regulatory review and granted an early end to the standard waiting period. Robert Hicks, former vice president and general manager of Novell’s Extended Networks Division, was named the new company’s president and CEO. Four other executives from Novell will be joining Hicks including Thomas Creighton, former lead architect at the Netware Systems Division, who was named vice president of engineering. William Donahoo will take the job of vice president of marketing; Ty Mattingly, vice president of sales and business development; and Steven Bentley, chief financial officer. Novonyx – formed to adapt, integrate and sell Netscape SuiteSpot for Novell’s IntranetWare platform – says that it expects to ship products in the fall of 1997. The first offerings will be IntranetWare versions of Netscape’s Enterprise Server 3.0 and Fast Track Server.
