The CDPD Cellular Digital Packet Data Forum has formally presented its cellular digital packet data technology standard to the TIA Telecommunications Industry Association for consideration as an ANSI standard. With this contribution, the CDPD Forum says that it has fulfilled a long-standing goal of placing the CDPD System Specification 1.1 into an officially recognized standards process. A new ad hoc committee was established by TIA that is to define the scope, charter as well as a work plan for a proposed wireless packet data subcommittee and meetings are now planned for February, following those that are being held in Newport Beach, California this month. The CDPD System Specification 1.1 defines the provisions of CDPD which is a technology that is intended to provide packet data networking services to mobile hosts.
