Nokia Oy and Geoworks Inc say they have signed an agreement to extend their collaboration to develop new software, operating systems and intelligent mobile communications devices. The two previously worked together on the development of the Nokia 9000 Communicator, a smartphone that integrates Geowork’s GEOS operating system. In addition Nokia and Geoworks will work on delivering content and services including remote shopping, telebanking, and access to the internet. The two companies will also target third-party developers with Geoworks’ Nokia 9000 Communicator Software Development Kit (SDK), which enables software developers to design applications for wireless devices. Geoworks, which on Tuesday reported a first-quarter loss of $5.8m on revenue down 30.5% at $1.9m, says it has licensed GEOS to Nokia, LM Ericsson Telefon AB, NEC Corp, Toshiba Corp, Hewlett- Packard Co, Brother International Corp and Canon Business Machines Inc.
