The merger talks between Compaq Computer Corp and Tandem Computers Inc all took place within six days, according to the San Jose Mercury, and was negotiated – in German – between the two chief executive officers Eckhard Pfeiffer and Roel Pieper in New York, finishing on Sunday night. The announcement was made at 8 a.m. on Monday, Eastern time.
