Super Micro Computer (Supermicro), a provider of application-optimised, server and storage offering, has launched a line of double-sided storage chassis, which it claims to enable extra high-density storage.
With platinum level power supply support, the new 847 series server chassis feature 36 hot-swap 3.5-inch hard drive trays with 24 in the front and 12 in the rear. For JBOD configurations, the chassis can support 21 HDDs in the rear for a total of 45 hot-swap 3.5-inch HDDs, Supermicro said.
According to Supermicro, the new SC847A series of storage chassis support 36 hot-swap SAS/SATA drives in 4U. It supports up to seven low-profile add-on cards or four full-height, full-length plus three low-profile add-on cards. It also supports both 3Gb/s and 6Gb/s SAS interfaces for high-bandwidth storage applications.
The company said that, when combined with wide selection of networking and storage controller cards, the new chassis are suitable for SAN or NAS applications and cloud storage, SaaS, disaster recovery, and iSCSI services. It supports both uni-processor and dual-processor serverboards and features optimised hard drive signal trace routing and enhanced hard drive tray designs to dampen vibration and maximise drive performance.
In addition, it also gives 100% cooling redundancy at times of internal cooling fan failure, and palletised packaging ensures secure system reliability during shipping, and tool-less, roller rail designs for easy installation and maintenance also come standard, the company claims.
Charles Liang, CEO and president of Supermicro, said: These double-sided, high-capacity storage chassis provide customers with direct hot-swap access to all of the storage drives while saving valuable rack space. In addition, these chassis feature Supermicro’s advanced redundant cooling subsystem design to deliver optimal system efficiency, which saves customers hundreds of dollars per system on their yearly energy bills and helps preserve the environment.
