Intel-compatible chip builder Cyrix Corp duly reported its anticipated second quarter loss, though the $5.3m trail of red ink was more than twice as much as analysts had forecast, which was less than the $16.4m it lost in the same period last year (CI No 3,194). Revenue was up 48% on last year at $40m compared with $27.1m. At the half way mark revenue was $115.6m compared with $78.7m and earnings reached $1.3m compared with a loss of $14.4m. Cyrix says its fiscal 1997 will end in the black as its new Pentium II competitor, the MMX-enabled 6x68MX ships this month and its MediaGX begins to show up in sub-$1,000 PCs. It blamed the losses on weak demand and pricing pressure.
