Unity Technologies, a provider of multi-platform game development for web, PC, Mac, Wii and iPhone, has released Unity Asset Server 2.0, an integrated version control offering for Unity assets and scripts.

The company said the version of Unity Asset Server brings it in line with client side improvements introduced in Unity 2.6 and adds Windows and Debian support to the existing OS X and Linux RPMs support.

According to Unity Technologies, Unity Asset Server 2.0 offers support for hosting the server on Windows, which saves setting up of Linux or Mac OS X machine for the purpose of hosting Unity Asset Server for Windows customers. The upgraded version of PostgreSQL increases performance, security and stability.

In addition, the new version is equipped with tools to simplify backup and restore of Asset Server databases and supports Debian-based Linux distributions. Unity Asset Server has a built in GUI for versioning assets and caches imported 3D models, removing the need to have the application in which the models are authored installed on all machines, the company said.
