Tulip Computers NV, the Dutch MS-DOS micromaker has announced plans to triple its manufacturing capacity to 300,000 systems per year as part of its bid to capture 8% of the European market by 1992, and is also doubling the size of its Crawley headquarters in the UK (CI No 928); the company is ranked as the seventh largest PC manufacturer in Europe with a 2% market share, having notched up sales of $87.6m in 1987, 48.5% better than the previous year and triple the 1985 volume; following the launch of the AT Compact 2 earlier this month Tulip says it plans to introduce a Micro Channel Architecture product by the end of the fourth quarter; questioned as to licence payments Tulip explained that it enjoyed a strong working relationship with IBM and could not foresee any trouble.
