Crossbow Technology, a supplier of wireless sensor technology and environmental monitoring products, has released the EN2120 eKo Long Range Node which extends the communication range between nodes up to 2 miles.

The Long Range Node addresses deployments with substantial areas, dense canopies and remote locations enhancing the capability of the eKo Node while still using the same form factor and solar recharging system.

The eKo system provides users with the ability to collect data from multiple points through their entire site providing detail regarding various parameters affecting their environment instead of relying on information from a single point.

According to Jack Coots of Iris Connection, the eKo system and specifically the new EN2120 Long Range Node allows users to gather data from a larger area with less nodes thereby reducing their installation costs and simultaneously expanding their coverage area.

Earlier in July, the company had released ESB (Environmental Sensor Bus)development platforms for the eKo system. The plug-and-play ESB architecture allows users to add a range of sensors to the eKo system with analogous to USB (Universal Sensor Bus), the architecture used to connect devices to a host computer.
