Netgear, a provider networking services, has launched ProSafe 8-Port VPN Firewall (FVS318G) that provides network security and remote access for small businesses.

According to Netgear, the new product provides IPsec VPN for secure remote connections and firewall functions to protect small business networks from hackers. It comes with eight gigabit ports, one gigabit WAN port, and up to 25 megabit per second broadband throughput.

Netgear said that the new FVS318G features a software-configurable hardware DMZ port to provide for server and other externally facing network resources like a web server and also have internal LAN security requirements. The DMZ port can be activated or deactivated using the GUI.

The DMZ port offers an additional layer of security to an organisation’s Local Area Network (LAN). External attacker has access to only the external-facing equipment in the DMZ, rather than the whole of the network, the company said.

Other features include, Network Address Translation (NAT) routing and classical routing, support for up to five simultaneous IPsec VPN tunnels, hacker protection via SPI firewall, Denial of Service (DoS) attack protection and multiple VPN pass-through. It features SYSLOG, email reporting, and integrates with network monitoring tools via SNMP.

The FVS318G incorporates the web-based ProSafe Control Center configuration screen and install assistant to reduce initial setup time. Compatible with Windows, UNIX, Macintosh, and Linux OS, the ProSafe 8-Port VPN Firewall is priced at $139.
