The electronic and electrical distribution group Electrocomponents Plc of Knightsbridge, London, has achieved steady growth over the past year. In particular its RS group of components companies increased its margins, raising exports to 8% of its turnover. Unfortunately, this growth largely stems from exports to Electrocomponents’ own company, Radionics, in Eire; although distributors in Australia and the Middle East have also contributed to export growth. The RS group will be focussing on continental Europe over the coming year. As regards new the peripherals market, significant orders have been received for Tempested computers from the US peripherals distributor Mesa Technology Corp. Aside from that, however, Electrocomponents’ growth this year and next lies with restructuring and reorganisation. For example, the companies distributing data processing peripherals in the US were consolidated into Mesa Technology Corp this year, thereby reducing overheads; while the two UK companies involved in franchised distribution were amalgamated under RR Electronics. Furthermore, next year Misco Inc is to reduce its operating cost base by computerisation, and the Electro Lighting Group is being reorganised to reduce its costs.
