Netgear has rolled out two new ProSafe Advanced Gigabit Smart Switches, GS724TPS and GS748TPS, designed for small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that combine gigabit connectivity, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) and stacking on the same platform.

Netgear claims that the new switches enable SMBs to migrate their current infrastructure to a converged network including wireless LANs, VoIP phones or IP-PBXs and video teleconferencing. With PoE capabilities on all ports and Auto Voice VLAN features, the new series switches can help customers to set up the PoE-enabled IP phones and wireless access points, without changing the wiring infrastructure.

According to the company, the new switches, which feature 802.1x for authentication and ACL filtering to permit or deny traffic based on MAC and/or IP addresses, will provide enhanced security to SMBs.

The new series switches are equipped with SNMP (v1, 2 and 3) that reportedly helps to collect and track data to monitor the network health, as well as manage devices, and enforce IT controls and policies. The switches can also be managed with Netgear ProSafe Network Management Software (NMS100) and work with other SNMP-based management software.
