Fujitsu Ltd last month unveiled the F1865A Facsimile Connection Unit, a device that functions as a facsimile machine; as a printer with laser printer-quality output; and as a data entry terminal with support for hand-written optical character recognition: it is designed for use on a Fujitsu Network Architecture around an M-series mainframe, where it can produce the same high-quality forms output as the latest F6677B2 laser printer, and can be used as in laser printer or facsimile mode; the data entry facility is designed for applications such as entering hand-written stock enquiries from retailers to wholesalers; it has 70Mb store-and-forward memory, which can be used to receive data downloaded from the mainframe and send it independently as documents to up to 128 facsimiles machines simultaneously – typically at night when rates are cheaper; no prices.
