UK company VisionWare Ltd, Leeds, has announced its SQL database server, SQL Connect, which links up Microsoft Windows with Unix-base databases, enabling personal computers to access data stored in host databases from within MS-DOS applications using SQL statements. VisionWare’s aim is to integrate MS-DOS, OS/2 and Unix around the Presentation Manager interface, and will be adding X Window functionality with a new product, called XVision, to be released shortly. The first release of SQL Connect supports Informix, Oracle and Uniplex databases and others are planned. VisionWare was one of the four groups born as management buyouts when Control Data’s Systime Ltd self-destructed in June.
