Nokia Data Systems AB, the company born of the merger earlier this year between Nokia Information Systems and Ericsson Information Systems, has become a member of X/Open Ltd. The membership has been transferred from L M Ericsson Telefon AB, which says that it is committed to giving continued support X/Open standards through its telecommunications and defence system products. Nokia Data, part of the $5,000 Nokia Oy Group its core business is still forest products – timber and paper, has its headquarters in Sweden and employs 8,000 people with a turnover of just about $1,000m. In the UK, its main markets are in finance, manufacturing, distribution, and travel businesses. Nokia Data President Kalle Isokallio says that his company is committed to implementing X/Open standards in its future hardware systems.
