DigitalPersona, a provider of fingerprint identity and authentication systems, has released the One Touch I.D. Software Development Kit (SDK), along with a new Best Practices guide for adding biometrics to applications.
DigitalPersona said that the new SDK enables developers to embed fingerprint identification for adding ‘touch-and-go’ authentication to their applications. With the new software package, applications can leverage fingerprint biometrics to identify individuals without requiring users to remember usernames, ID numbers, PINs or swipe cards.
DigitalPersona claims that the new software package also helps applications combat ‘double-dipping’ fraud by identifying people trying to hide behind multiple identities to inappropriately gain access to services, entitlements or employment.
The company said that the new software package helps developers incorporate fast fingerprint identification for ‘touch-and-go’ authentication into a range of commercial applications. This capability enables organisations to enhance security, issues which are important in the retail, restaurant, healthcare, financial services, and state or local government sectors.
The new software package provides .NET programming interface to address developer needs and allow for easier application development, the company added.
The One Touch I.D. SDK runs on Microsoft Windows XP and Vista and is compatible with the company’s free One Touch for Windows SDK, which enables developers to add fingerprint capabilities to their applications. It is priced at $600.
