IBM has won what is perhaps its single largest order for AS/400 systems from the Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corp Ltd, Newsbytes reports. The order is worth $55m and is also the largest computer order ever placed by any customer in Hong Kong. The agreement covers over 100 AS/400s, from medium to large configurations, to be installed in the bank’s offices worldwide over the next 30 months. AS/400 systems already supports the bank’s retail and corporate banking systems, treasury, merchant banking, insurance, trustee and management information systems, and the order is seen as a confidence booster in a Hong Kong that is increasingly edgy since the massacre in June in Tiananmen Square.
