Daimler-Benz AG has run into flak from environmentalists and historicists for a plan to construct an office complex on Potzdamerplatz, heart of old Berlin but now a rubble-strewn wasteland, in which to house a new financial and computer services operation employing 8,000 – but commerce has won the day and the West Berlin administration has given the automaker the go-ahead.
