Raytheon Co and Texas Instruments Inc are co-leaders of a US Department of Defense project to develop Gallium Arsenide circuits under the tri-service MIMIC Microwave/Millimeter Wave Monolithic Integrated Circuit program: the partners have formed a joint venture to develop technology to enable the production of large quantities of affordable, reliable, high performance MIMIC components and the contract from the Naval Air Systems Command provides about $1m to the venture for the concept definition phase; there will be four phases to the program over five years, with total funding set at $135m; the GaAs parts will be designed for use in radar, communications, intelligent weapons, and electronic warfare systems.
