A man identifying himself only as an Australian called Dave phoned the New York Times on Tuesday – purportedly from abroad to claim that it was he that had been doing the hacking into computers on the Internet network (CI No 1,389): he claimed to the Times that his intention was to embarrass the security experts that write so negatively about hackers, and that he did not intend to cause any damage; none has been reported beyond the waste of administrators’ time.
