Data integration software provider Talend said that it has acquired rights to the Master Data Management (MDM) technology of Amalto Technologies and as a result of this, will offer an open source MDM product based on that technology.

Talend said that it will offer a free version of its open source MDM product under the GNU General Public License as well as a commercial subscription version with value-added features and services for enterprise deployment. The new Master Data Management products are expected to be available in early 2010.

The company stated that most enterprises face problem to provide a consistent view of their customer base, product catalogue, employees, or other master data shared and used by many applications and lines of business. The Master Data Management allows an organisation to link all of its critical data to one file and efficiently manages the shared data.

Talend said that it has completed a full audit of the source code to ensure its intellectual property compliance and is in the process of integrating it with the its data integration and data quality technologies.

Bertrand Diard, co-founder and CEO of Talend, said: “We have been analysing the MDM market for some time and sought the right fit that would easily integrate with our existing technologies.

“Moreover, MDM is a natural extension to our data integration and data quality solutions and will enable our customers to cover all aspects of the data lifecycle. By introducing the first open source MDM solution, Talend is poised to change the market landscape, competing head to head with established players such as IBM and Oracle, for the greater benefit of all customers and users.”
