EQUATORIAL COMMUNICATIONS TO EXTEND SERVICE TO CENTRAL AMERICA, SOUTH AMERICA AND CARIBBEAN

By CBR Staff Writer

Equatorial Communications Co, Mountain View, which already provides satellite broadcast facilities for transmission of Reuters (Holdings) Plc news, pictures and real-time financial data directly to media and business clients in the US, will offer a similar service for Central America, South America and the Caribbean from June 1, and will be the first broadcast service designated by Intelsat as an Intelnet 1 service, intended to enable the inexpensive transmission of data worldwide; an agreement to buy the Master Earth Station in Hauppauge, New York and an initial group of 250 C-100 micro earth stations from Equatorial for the new service was signed by Reuters in December last year.
