Facit Ltd is entering the desktop publishing market with an expensive range of systems called the Facit 9800 series, based on its parent Ericsson’s computer systems; the range starts with the middle of the range 80286-based 9840, launched yesterday and based on the Ericsson WS286, which starts at UKP10,585 and comes with Microsoft’s Windows and Word, Adobe Systems’ PostScript page description language, Ricoh laser printer, Aldus Pagemaker software, 15 black and white screen, 1Mb RAM, 20Mb Winchester, keyboard and mouse; the price of the system, which will be sold through a network of text processing and typewriter dealers, also includes a two-day training session; two more systems, an entry-level system priced at around UKP8,000 and a top-end system with computer-aided design-style monitors, both also based on Ericsson kit, will appear in the third and the fourth quarter of 1987 respectively.
