Centram Inc, in process of being acquired by Sun Microsystems Inc, Mountain View, California, has teamed with Blyth Software Inc to announce a version of Blyth’s Omnis 3 Plus multi-user database that supports the Centram Tops local area file transfer system, and will market it jointly. Omnis 3 Plus is a programmable relational database optimised for complex, textual and numeric-intensive applications requiring speed and data integrity in high transaction processing environments. The Tops version of Omnis 3 Plus will enable up to 32 users on a Tops network to share files and Omnis 3 libraries and data are network-independent, so Tops Omnis users will be able to use files created on other versions of Omnis 3. Using the Tops version of Omnis 3, however, users will also be able to access files created in MS-DOS applications, such as dBase III, and the reverse also is true: dBase III files on a Personal will be able to read Omnis 3 files created on a Macintosh. In the first of several joint marketing strategies, Centram will participate in Blyth’s Frequent Seller Programme. Modelled after those airline frequent flyer promotions, Blyth awards mileage points for each Omnis 3 package sold. Additional points will be added when an installation of Tops is sold with Omnis 3 Plus. Centram also is inviting registered Blyth developers to participate in its Tops developer programme.
