A new approval scheme for apparatus connecting to digital private circuits has been announced by the UK Office of Telecommunications, which is inviting applicants: apparatus to be connected to private circuits operating at 2,048Kbps will be evaluated against the British Approvals Board for Telecommunications’ Investigation Test Schedule Document, and the scheme will be extended to include connection to private digital circuits operating at 64kbps; applications for this category will be invited by the Approvals Board from November 1 onwards – but type approvals issued on the basis of evaluation under this scheme will not allow the carrying of public switched network traffic over digital private circuits.
